Programs

Teen Health Center programs serve pre-sexually active adolescents, sexually active adolescents, and parenting adolescents. We also offer programs for parents and families of adolescents ages 11 – 18 and other adults interested in the well-being of our next generation. We use evidence or science based approaches and other promising programs to address teen pregnancy.

Using a science based approach for teen pregnancy prevention helps ensure that programs have a greater chance of succeeding.  Program developers and researchers have done studies and tracked participants in these programs to determine what is effective and what is not.

A science-based program is one that research has shown to be effective in changing at least one of the following behaviors that contribute to early pregnancy, STD, and HIV infection: delaying sexual initiation, reducing the frequency of sexual intercourse, reducing the number of sexual partners, or increasing the use of condoms and other contraceptives. You can read about science based programs and all other programs used by Teen Health Center in the listings.

Teen Health Center evaluates the success of all its program offerings.  For programs that are a minimum of six weeks in length, participants are surveyed at the beginning (pre-survey) and then again at the end of the program series (post-survey).  Data from these surveys allow us to evaluate each group we facilitate as well as the program as a whole. Staff and program contractors are trained in the curriculum or have extensive experience in providing youth development activities.
